Notes from PTO, October 13, 2009
PTO held their second meeting of the new school year tonight. We had one parent in attendance, Jodi Feck. We appreciate you taking the time and sharing your thoughts and ideas!
Doreen Choong, bookkeeper for the Parish, gave us a written report of the income and expenses since our last PTO meeting in September. The balance in our account is $8,852.19. We need to reimburse Michelle Greer for the cost incurred for the teacher appreciation luncheon that was held in May.
PTO is still looking for someone to take on the roll of Secretary/Treasurer. This is a 2 year commitment and is not as bad as it sounds!!! The Secretary attends our monthly meeting and takes minutes (notes as to what is being said and or done). The Secretary will provide copies of the previous meeting’s minutes to the Board at the next monthly meeting. The Treasurer’s duties include light record keeping of deposits and payments. Our official bookkeeping is handled by the Parish Office and the Treasurer would keep her informed of expenditures. It is a good way to get your self familiar with PTO – a great place to start!!!
Ms. Model made the suggestion that we should have another PTO sponsored Movie Night again sometime before March. Various ideas were tossed around regarding the all school movie as the reward for our school reaching the goal of selling the required amount of raffle tickets during Carnival. It was noted that everyone (teachers included) enjoyed having the movie during Catholic Schools week as it is a hectic time for all. Vice President Carol Craig said she would call the theater to find out what movies would be available at that time and report back to the board.
There was not a staff representative at this meeting.
New Business consisted of various ways to improve and/or change Carnival & Chili Supper.
Carol Craig thought it was a good idea to change the carnival time from 5:00 to 9:00pm to 3:00 – 7:00pm or 4:00 – 8:00pm. as it seems the crowd really winds down by 8:00. We did not make any decisions as our President was absent from the meeting – but plan to discuss further at our November meeting. We also discussed the possibility of asking the art department at Sheridan College if they would be interested in providing face painting during carnival next as this seems to be one of our more popular events!
The meeting was adjourned at 7:30pm
