Goose Creek Project Grades 6-8 Holy Name students participate in the Wyoming Stream Team project made possible through grants from the Teton Science School and the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality. Students monitor Goose Creek for biological, chemical, and physical changes. Each class goes to the creek once a week for five weeks during the fall. The data they record is then entered into a database that is shared with other schools around the state. Students evaluate the health of the creek and compare its condition from year to year. Grades 7-8 Science Fair A big part of seventh and eighth grade is participating in the science fair. Students come up with a question they would like to investigate and design an experiment. They research their topic and carry out the experiment. Once they have completed the work they determine if their hypothesis was correct and present their findings at the regional level. Holy Name students have been very successful at the regional and state science fairs. Grade 8 Teton Science School Each January, the eighth grade students have the opportunity to attend the Teton Science School in Jackson, WY. For one week they get to experience nature at its finest. They spend the week snowshoeing, cross country skiing, tracking animals, studying snow science, visiting the National Wildlife Museum and Elk refuge, and learning about winter adaptations. Many students will name TSS as a highlight of their career at Holy Name. |
