| Did you know that in Sheridan, the first Catholic Church was built in 1888, located at 137 Wyoming Avenue? In 1914, Holy Name Catholic School was constructed under the direction of the church's first pastor, Reverend John Duffy, who raised the funds from Sheridan residents. It was Father Duffy who invited the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth to teach at Holy Name School. The school was built at a cost of 18,000 dollars and was located on East Works Street. The school's enrollment in its first year was ninety students. Father Duffy dreamed of a day when all of the parrish's children would be able to attend Holy Name School. |
